Racing has always been in Ewan Whillans’ blood. Growing up in a racing family, he developed a deep love for the sport from an early age, spending his formative years learning the ropes and gaining hands-on experience with racehorses. This passion led him to a career as a professional jockey, where he rode under both codes, gaining invaluable insight into what it takes to win on the track. His time in the saddle shaped his understanding of how horses think, move, and perform, giving him a unique advantage when it comes to training.

After retiring from race riding, Ewan’s desire to stay involved in the sport led him naturally into training. He established his dual-purpose yard in Hawick 2021, in the heart of the Scottish Borders, where he now trains both flat and National Hunt horses. His experience as a jockey gives him an edge when it comes to preparing horses for the track—he understands their needs, knows how to get the best out of them, and applies a patient, hands-on approach to their development.

Ewan is dedicated to creating a training environment where horses thrive. His philosophy is built on attention to detail, individual care, and strategic race planning to ensure each horse reaches its full potential. Whether developing young talent or revitalizing experienced campaigners, his goal is always to produce happy, healthy, and competitive racehorses.

With a strong team behind him, excellent facilities, and a deep-rooted passion for racing, Ewan Whillans continues to build a successful operation, delivering results for owners who want a trainer with real experience, dedication, and a love for the game.
