🏇 Weekend Runners Preview – Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd June
It’s a busy weekend ahead for the yard, with four runners across Redcar, Ayr, and Hexham. Here’s everything you need to know about our chances on Saturday and Sunday:
📍 Saturday – Redcar 2:14
Billy Bathgate
Market Cross Jewellers Handicap
Jockey: Rowan Scott
Billy Bathgate returns quickly after a promising run on Monday, where he finished 4th but was denied a clear run at a key stage. With a bit more luck in running, he could easily have finished closer to the leaders. He’s come out of the race in great order, enjoying a few easy days out in the field.
Conditions today – track, trip, and ground – all look ideal, and he heads into this one in good shape. It’s a competitive race, but we’re hopeful of a big performance. We’d be disappointed with anything outside the top 3, and a win certainly wouldn’t be a surprise.
📍 Saturday – Ayr 7:08
Pinpoint
Dalcon Civil Engineering Classified Stakes (Div II)
Jockey: Kevin Stott
Pinpoint returns from a short break and lines up in a race that should be well within reach. He’ll need the ground to stay on the good side, as quicker conditions suit him best. It’s not the strongest race on paper, but there are a couple of rivals to respect.
He’s been working well at home and we’re hopeful he stays the 7f trip, which all signs suggest he will. If he settles into a rhythm, we expect him to be competitive in the closing stages.
📍 Sunday – Hexham 2:48
Scots Poet
Diana & Malcolm Pearce 50th Wedding Anniversary Handicap Chase (GBB Race)
Jockey: Conor O’Farrell
Scots Poet heads into a small field (4 runners), where the ground will be key. He needs top-of-the-ground conditions, so we’ll be hoping the forecast stays dry.
He was below par last week, but a mistake at the back ended his chances early. If he can return to the form of his first two runs at Hexham, he should go very close. A settled ride and a clean round of jumping could make him tough to beat.
📍 Sunday – Hexham 4:25
Cracking Destiny (pictured below)
Chris Lowther & Brian Ellison 27 Years Handicap Chase (GBB Race)
Jockey: Craig Nichol
The ever-consistent Cracking Destiny is back in action. Now a bit of a veteran, he’s still showing plenty of enthusiasm and form at home. His last outing at Perth was solid, though the 2m4f trip didn’t quite play to his strengths around that track.
We’ve switched him to Hexham in search of a stiffer test that should suit better. While there are no certainties at this stage of his career, this looks the right race and we’re hopeful he’ll be in the shake-up turning for home.
🏁 Best of Luck to All Connections
It’s shaping up to be a busy and exciting weekend. Best of luck to all owners, jockeys, and connections involved – let’s hope we’re in the winners’ enclosure before long!
