Millbuie Set for Ayr – Aiming to Bounce Back

We head to Ayr this afternoon with just the one runner, but there’s plenty going on behind the scenes at Ewan Whillans Racing as we keep one eye on the track — and the other on the sales ring.

Millbuie is our sole runner today and lines up in a competitive handicap at Ayr with a late jockey change — Shane Gray now taking the reins in place of P.J. McDonald.

He’s been in great form at home, and although his last run was a touch disappointing, we had our reasons. The step up in trip should have suited him perfectly, but a few niggles in his back post-race gave him a fair excuse. He also hung left during that effort, so we’re more than happy to draw a line through it.

The team are happy with how he’s come out of that race, and today we’re hoping he can get a bit of cover early on and produce his run late up the straight — a tactic that suits him best. It’s a warm contest for the grade, but he’s showing the right signs at home, and we’re quietly confident of an each-way shout. Anything beyond that would be a bonus.

🐎 Sales Week – Doncaster & Ireland Ahead

While Millbuie flies the flag on the track, the team are also active off it — and this week sees us back on the sales trail.

We’re currently at Doncaster, looking to secure another smart addition for the racing club, and then it’s over to Ireland on Wednesday, where we’ve had good fortune in recent years. Previous graduates of these sales include the likes of Cracking Rhapsody and Malicash, and we’re hopeful we can uncover a few more gems to bolster the yard.
