A Busy Week at Ewan Whillans Racing: New Acquisitions from Doncaster and Ireland

It’s been an exciting week behind the scenes at Ewan Whillans Racing, with the addition of three promising National Hunt prospects. Each pedigree offers excellent jumping potential, and we're delighted to share a little more background on them.

🐴 Schiaparelli × Pumped Up Kicks

We secured this attractive prospect at the Doncaster sale. Schiaparelli (by Monsun) was a top-class performer on the flat—winner of Group 1 races including the Deutsches Derby and Preis von Europa—before emerging as a successful National Hunt sire. His progeny offer excellent stamina, size (standing at 16.3 hh), strong bone, and sound conformation—ideal for chasing .

The dam, Pumped Up Kicks (Flemensfirth–Beauty Star), herself descends from proven NH lines. While detailed sales data is scarce, Flemensfirth is famed for siring outstanding jumpers, and this mare’s bloodlines signal plenty of scope and aptitude for producing hurdling talent.

🐴 Mahler × Poor Auld Jess

This striking colt, bought from an Irish sale, is by Mahler (GB), who stands at Beeches Stud and commands respect as a proven National Hunt sire—with progeny winning over hurdles and fences . He covered
numerous mares and is known for soundness and strong temperament.

The dam, Poor Auld Jess (IRE), belongs to an Irish mare line known for toughness and versatility. The catalogues report this colt sold for around €4,000—a value buy given his pedigree and physical presence.

🐴 Sumbal × Bespoke Baby

A final acquisition from the Irish sales, this chestnut colt is by Sumbal, a young sire based at Boardsmill Stud who is rapidly proving himself in the National Hunt world . Sumbal’s first foals sold for up to €35,000 and include both flat and jump winners from limited crops, including point-to-point success in Ireland

The dam, Bespoke Baby (IRE), brings additional depth through her sire line—though modestly priced at around €3,800 in prior sales, she blends well with Sumbal’s emerging profile
