One Runner At Newcastle Today
We’ve just the one runner out today, but it’s a nice one to look forward to as Millbuie lines up in the 5.55 at Newcastle with Paul Mulrennan taking the ride.
He’s been pleasing us at home and is definitely going the right way with each run. David Allan has ridden him the last couple of times and felt strongly that he would improve for a step up in trip – so we’ve listened to that advice and given him the extra distance today. It looks the right move for him at this stage.
There are encouraging signs in his pedigree too. His dam loved it around Newcastle, and Millbuie has already shown us glimpses at home that he could follow suit. His last run was comfortably his best to date, and it suggested that he’s starting to put the pieces together.
Paul knows the track inside out, and we won’t be tying him down with instructions – the plan is simply to let him ride the race as he sees it and allow Millbuie to finish off strongly. It is a hot contest for the grade, and there are a few with solid claims in here, but we’re hopeful that the step up in trip will bring out further improvement.
If everything falls right, I’d like to think he can be competitive in the closing stages and take another step forward in his development.
