Race Day Blog – Billy Bathgate Returns

This evening we have Billy Bathgate heading to the 5.30 at Newcastle Racecourse with Jason Hart back in the saddle.

Billy returns to the track after a slightly frustrating run last time out at Wolverhampton. On that occasion he ran a bit too freely and ended up running away with the jockey, which ultimately cost him any chance of showing his true ability in the latter stages of the race. It was disappointing on the day, but we know he is much better than what he was able to show there.

Prior to that run he had been extremely consistent throughout the All-Weather Bonus period, putting together a string of solid performances and regularly giving his owners plenty to shout about. He has continued to work well at home since his last run and arrives here in good order.

If he settles better this time and gets into a nice rhythm during the race, there’s every chance he can bounce back to the level of form we know he’s capable of. It’s another competitive race, but we would love to see him back running to his usual standard and hopefully finishing in the first three.
