Raceday Blog: Four Runners for the Team Today

We’re back on the road today with four runners, and it’s set to be an informative afternoon for the yard. Each horse arrives with something to prove, something to build on, or something to put right — and Ewan has shared his thoughts on what we’re hoping to see from them.

1:05 – Georgie’s Malt

Jockey: Conor O’Farrell

Our day begins with Georgie’s Malt, who unfortunately came down last time out. The encouraging news is that she has shown no signs of being unsettled by the fall. At home she has schooled beautifully, jumping with confidence and enthusiasm.

Ewan’s main aim today is for her to find a smooth rhythm early and take up a position in the first half-dozen. There are certainly a few sharp, dangerous types in the field, but we’re looking for her to get round, rebuild confidence, and give us a solid foundation to work from. If she does that, it will be a very positive step forward.

1:38 – Lizzie Luna

Jockey: Craig Nichol

Next up is Lizzie Luna, who shaped better than the bare result on her seasonal return. She probably just needed the run and had one or two excuses in the race itself, but she still showed enough to suggest improvement is coming.

Today’s race is competitive and she’ll have to be sharp to mix it with the principals, but the team feel she has tightened up since last time. If she travels into the race and gets the gaps when it matters, she’s the type who could run into the placings with a bit of luck.

2:13 – Scots Poet

Jockey: Conor O’Farrell

Scots Poet is in a very similar place — one who should come forward for his recent run and who has always enjoyed his racing around Musselburgh. Today marks his chasing debut, which naturally brings a new test, but he has the attitude and natural pace to handle it well.

This is a strong contest on paper, and the trip caught him out last time, but if he jumps fluently and gets into a good rhythm, there’s every chance he can be competitive. Ewan is hopeful he can put his best foot forward and potentially grab a place.

2:48 – Star of Guiting

We round off the day with Star of Guiting, who unseated his rider on his latest outing. The team are inclined to put that down to the low sun, with several fences omitted after the race, which would explain why he didn’t jump as he normally does. He’s typically a very reliable and clever jumper, so we’re happy to draw a line through that performance.

Star of Guiting is a strong traveller and can be a touch keen, so the plan will be to drop him in, get him switched off, and ride him to finish. If he does settle and sees the race out the way we know he can, we’re hoping for a much more representative run from him today.

Good Luck to All Connections

It’s an exciting afternoon ahead with four horses who each have something to offer. As always, the priority is safe homecomings for horses and jockeys — and hopefully a few bright performances to take forward into the season.

Good luck to all connections and everyone heading to the track today!
