Raceday Preview: Ayr & Newcastle
We’ve got three horses heading to the track today, with one at Ayr and a pair lining up at Newcastle later this evening.
5:05 Ayr – Ebony Maw (Jason Hart)
Ebony Maw is up first at Ayr. His last run was disappointing, and nothing has really come to light since to fully explain that performance. There may have been a couple of small factors at play, but nothing concrete. On his previous form, there’s a lot to like, so we’ll be hoping he can put that last run behind him and get back to showing what he’s capable of. A competitive effort would be a step in the right direction.
5:30 Newcastle – Billy Bathgate (Rowan Scott)
Billy Bathgate makes his return at Newcastle. He’ll need the run today and should come on plenty for it, but he’s been going well at home and will be kept busy through the winter. With only five runners declared, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he managed to be competitive despite this being very much a starting point for his season.
5:30 Newcastle – Cracker Star (P J McDonald)
Also in the 5:30 at Newcastle, Cracker Star lines up with PJ McDonald in the saddle. His preparation has been a little stop-start, but he’s ready to get going now. What we’d really like to see today is a step forward from him and something to build on going forward. If he can show us that, we’ll be happy.
We’ll keep everyone updated on our social media and website as the jumps season begins to build momentum and the All-Weather Championships take centre stage over the coming months.
