Runners at Musselburgh – New Year’s Day Update

We head to Musselburgh today with two runners, and we’re looking forward to seeing both horses back on the track as we kick off the New Year.

Our first runner is Glenridding, who lines up in the 12.30 at Musselburgh with Callum Bewley taking the ride. This will be Glenridding’s first run, and as is often the case with a debutant, today is very much about learning and gaining experience. He was quite free-going when he first came to us, so we’ve focused heavily on getting his jumping right at home rather than pushing him hard in terms of workload. He’s done some good schooling and is coming along nicely. If he can finish in the first half of the field and show us something positive to build on, we’d be very happy. Anything more than that would be a real bonus at this stage.

Later on the card, we saddle Star of Guiting in the 3.25 at Musselburgh with Craig Nichol onboard . He ran well last time out and has been in good form at home since, seeming bright and well in himself. This looks a more competitive race than his previous outing, so today should give us a clearer idea of where we stand with him. If he proves competitive at this level, it gives us confidence to keep entering him in these stronger races. However, if he finds the opposition too strong, we’ll likely look to drop him back against slightly lesser competition going forward.

We’re hopeful of a couple of solid runs and, as always, grateful to everyone involved with the horses.

Good luck to all connections, and we’d like to wish everyone a very happy New Year from all of us at Ewan Whillans Racing.
