Team Update: A Three-Track Challenge Awaits
Scot’s Poet – Ready to Strike Again
Scot’s Poet returns to action following a highly encouraging effort last time out, where he finished a close third in a performance full of promise. He travelled strongly throughout and looked particularly impressive for much of the race, only just fading late on after possibly doing a little too much early.
Conor O’Farrell is back in the saddle today, and that looks a positive move. Conditions appear ideal — the ground should suit, and with proven course and distance form, everything points towards another big run.
The key today will be settling him early. He was a touch keen last time, which may have cost him late on, so expect a more patient ride — dropped in, switched off, and delivered late. In what looks a small but competitive race, if he relaxes and reproduces that last run, he should be firmly in the mix and could go very close.
Star Of Guiting – Big Test at Aintree
Star Of Guiting heads to Aintree for the 5.15 in what looks a particularly hot and competitive contest on paper. There are several in the lineup with solid claims, so this will demand a strong performance.
That said, he comes into the race in good form and has been holding his condition well at home. The race setup should suit him, and the plan will likely be to ride him with patience — dropped in early and allowed to find a rhythm before being asked to challenge late.
If things fall his way and he gets the right pace to aim at, there’s every chance he can be competitive in what is undoubtedly a deep race. It’s a tough ask, but not without hope if he brings his best.
Invincible Melody – Turf Test at Thirsk
Invincible Melody lines up in the 5.35 at Thirsk, stepping into slightly unknown territory as he switches from the all-weather to turf.
Most of his experience to date has come on the all-weather, so today represents something of a learning curve. However, he’s been working well at home, and there’s a feeling that he’s in a good place heading into this test.
The surface is the main question mark — how he handles turf will tell us plenty — but if he can reproduce the level of form he’s shown on the all-weather, he could easily find himself being competitive. While today may be as much about learning as it is results, there’s definite potential for a solid showing.
