Ready to Bounce Back: Ramon Di Loria

Ramon Di Loria returns to the track today, and while his most recent outing was below expectations, it’s one we’re very comfortable putting firmly behind us. It simply didn’t reflect the horse we know. Those runs can happen from time to time, and with Ramon, his overall profile tells a much more reliable story—he’s a model of consistency and rarely runs a bad race.

What makes today particularly encouraging is the return to familiar territory. He lines up at a track where he has already proven himself, over a distance that suits him well. That previous winning experience at the course gives plenty of confidence, and it’s always a positive when a horse returns to conditions where they’ve thrived before.

At home, everything has been pleasing. He’s been showing the right signs in his work, moving well, and maintaining his usual enthusiasm. There’s a sense that he’s in a good place physically and mentally, which gives the team plenty of encouragement heading into today’s race.

The draw in stall 7 should allow for options, but tactically it will be important to get things right early. Ramon is at his best when he can settle in behind runners, finding cover and switching off through the early stages. He’s a horse who thrives when he has something to aim at—horses in front of him help him relax, travel kindly, and build into the race.

Greg knows him well and the plan will be straightforward: get him into a rhythm, keep him tucked in behind the pace, and allow the race to develop. Patience will be key. Rather than forcing the issue too early, the intention will be to produce Ramon late, giving him every chance to use his finishing effort to full effect in the closing stages.

If he can get the right run through and everything falls into place, there’s every reason to believe he can bounce back and show his true level once again. On his best form, he’s more than capable of being competitive in a race like this, and we head into today with quiet confidence that he can put that last run behind him and remind everyone of his ability.
