The Boss’ Thoughts – Looking Ahead to Carlisle & Stratford

We’ve got three runners over the next couple of days, with two heading to Carlisle tomorrow and one making the trip to Stratford.

Carlisle – Tuesday

First up in the 2:45, we run Back Tomorrow with Rowan Scott booked. She didn’t enjoy Hamilton last time out, but Carlisle is a track she’s previously run well at, and the stiff finish should play to her strengths. The race looks good on paper, and her work at home has been really encouraging. The only slight concern is the ground – she wouldn’t want it too soft – but with the sun and wind helping dry things out, we’re hopeful it’ll ride well enough for her to show what she’s capable of.

In the 3:15, Billy Bathgate goes under Joe Fanning. He’s in a similar boat – the race should suit him, and he’s been training nicely at home. While his best form has come on quicker ground, he hasn’t had too many chances on slower going, so it’ll be interesting to see how he handles it. If he copes with conditions, he’s certainly got an each-way chance.

Stratford – Tuesday

Over at Stratford, Captain Ivan (pictured below) lines up in the 4:30 with Craig Nichol on board. Things didn’t go to plan last time – the ground turned soft, and he pulled a shoe coming out of the paddock – so we’ve put a line through that run. Before that, he’d been in great form and a real star for the yard. There are a couple of nice horses in the race, but the track should suit, and we’re looking forward to a much more competitive showing this time around.

Best of luck to all connections – and as always, the main thing is that all the horses come home safe and sound.
